Dr. Pastore is a Professor of Transdisciplinary Studies in the Kanbar College of Design, Engineering and Commerce, Co-Director of the Engineering and Design Institute, Director of the Philadelphia University Jazz Band and Nexus Learning Advocate. He teaches courses in Engineering, Systems Thinking, Architecture and Sustainable Design.
Dr. Pastore received a B.A. in Mathematics from LaSalle University, M.S. in Mathematics from Drexel University and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Drexel University.
Prior to joining Philadelphia University, he served as Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the Fibrous Materials Research Center at Drexel University, Associate Professor and Director of the Advanced Textiles and Composites Laboratory at North Carolina State University, and Visiting Professor at University of Gent. He is active in research on the mechanical behavior of textile materials and composites as well as green materials and processes. Chris has written or is published in 17 books, has 3 patents, 50 refereed publications, and over 120 presentations in his field. He is recognized as an international expert.
Chris is a recipient of Dr. Jackie Rehkopf Best Paper Award from the Society of Plastics Engineers (2105), Presidents Award for Excellence from Philadelphia University (2015), Excellence in Sustainability Education Award from the Delaware Valley Green Building Council (2007) Philadelphia Sustainability Award from Pennsylvania Environmental Council (2007) the Leadership in Sustainable Building, Pennsylvania Resources Council (2004), Director’s Award in System Competency from the National Textile Center (2004), and the the Fiber Society’s Distinguished Achievement in Basic or Applied Fiber Science award (2000).
