Dr. Pastore is a Professor of Transdisciplinary Studies in the Kanbar College of Design, Engineering and Commerce, Co-Director of the Engineering and Design Institute, Director of the TJU Jazz Band and Chair of the Faculty. He teaches courses in Systems Thinking, Integrative Design, Engineering, Architecture and Sustainable Design.
Dr. Pastore received a B.A. in Mathematics from LaSalle University, M.S. in Mathematics from Drexel University and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Drexel University.
Prior to this he served as Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the Fibrous Materials Research Center at Drexel University, Associate Professor and Director of the Advanced Textiles and Composites Laboratory at North Carolina State University, and Visiting Professor at University of Gent. He is active in research on the mechanical behavior of textile materials and composites as well as green materials and processes, and has published 5 books and over 40 papers in this area, and is recognized as an international expert in the field. In 2017 he served as a visiting scientist at RWTH Aachen University, researching 4D Textiles. He is the recipient of a Fulbright Specialist award, working with Durban University of Technology on their textile programs in 2017.
Chris is a recipient of the Dr. Jackie Rehkopf Best Paper Award from the Society of Plastics Engineers (2015), the Excellence in Sustainability Education Award from the Delaware Valley Green Building Council (2007) Philadelphia Sustainability Award from Pennsylvania Environmental Council (2007) the Leadership in Sustainable Building, Pennsylvania Resources Council (2004), Director’s Award in System Competency from the National Textile Center (2004), and the Fiber Society’s Distinguished Achievement in Basic or Applied Fiber Science award (2000).
With Dr. Jack Suss, Chris published The Red Queen’s Menagerie, a classroom game teaching about The Red Queen Hypothesis for environmental science.
